The above article laments that fact that over 100K Minnesotans now have CCWs---over 1 in 40 adults in that state. I do so love to hear their lamentations.
Add one more state with a fairly high CCW density. Is it any accident that we've never heard of a (successful) mass shooting in any area where it is legal for the prospective victims to be armed? Minnesota went 'Shall Issue' in 2003.

Washington State is CCW and six people were killed in a cafe last month. We've had a number of mass shootings in the last 20 years in fact. I say this as a supporter if CCW.
Are you talking about the Cafe Racer shootings? The Cafe Racer serves wine and beer---are you allowed CCW in Washington in such places? I know a few states allow that but most do not.
What the hell is CCW without the 'C'?
Carry Concealed Weapon is CCW...I suppose if you were to remove the C, that'd mean that you're either Carrying a Weapon (open carry?), or have a concealed weapon that you're not actually carrying (in your car maybe?).
My point was that if was Concealed (the 'C' of interest), then how could anyone know you were Carrying it into a cafe... If you don't need to use it, no one will ever know. If you do, then who cares about rules about carrying in cafes?
Nick,
Most CCW holders don't carry in such places because if the DO happen to need to draw, they're already on the fast track to get Zimmerman'ed. Plus there's the fact that Concealed is really not a binary term---witness the incident in Las Vegas Costco if memory serves, where the police and manager freaked when an employee noticed that someone was carrying concealed.
Hmm... well I suppose the irrational freakouts would outnumber actual needs by a large margin, and thus make it a nuisance most of the time. No one wants to get Zimmermaned, but George Zimmerman hadn't been packing, he might very well have ended up dead. That reminds me, I gotta go plunk down another $100 for his defense fund.
Anyway, as a pre-noob to gun ownership (and as a NJ "may-issue" resident likely never a CCW permit holder), I was just very surprised that CCW had such restrictions.
BTW, La Wik's got an animated US map on Right to Carry. It is, I suppose, as heart-warming to gun rights advocates as it is panty-soiling to their detractors.
Nick,
Not all states have such restrictions, but the restriction on CCW in places that serve beer or wine is really common. I'm personally VERY down on any establishment that disallows CCW---such is essentially a declaration that I have to boycott them because they've identified them as among my enemies. It is really stupid for corporations to take sides in the Culture War, but a lot of them do it anyway.
